Clapham Junction from the Clapham Grand
This piece of work is the first to include a hand written story as part of the finished work. After many trips up and down the ladders to the roof of the Clapham Grand I scribbled ideas in my sketchbook. I also felt the view needed something extra as the treeless man-made world below was too harsh a reality. So to compensate I made a still-life of toy animals and a plastic tree to remind us of childhood lost and what we my lose to. The writing starts on the side on panels, a discussion about thoughts and ideas on these themes, a conversation with my best teachers who were all passionate about the natural world and made it their work . On the right hand side of the piece I discuss the moon, and asked lots of people what they thought. There was a wonderful lunar eclipse while I made this work so I included it in the top corner, a little toy ball in the sky.
